53rd OCT Social Night

on the 7th of january, i attended the 53rd OCT social night held for the nsf policemen. i was invited by a friend of mine to accompany his friend. so, the event was held at conrad hotel. i know right, one of the 5 star hotels. continue reading and i'll tell you why it doesnt really feels like a 5 star to me.

the theme was las vegas. and i kinda get something in relation to that. but as usual, i dont really see much people really dressing up to the theme. i had a toga top which was covered by my black coat. i realized i dint even take out my black coat. the temperature of the ballroom was very low, to the extend that it made me shivers!

anyway, im glad to be there. i stumble upon few familiar faces there! & when i viewed the montage that was played, it reminds me back of my training days, before i started work before. somehow, we shared almost similar training, except for the physical training part.

okay pictures speaks!

my partner for the day, mohd ridzuan. such a small world, he was from SP and graduated with a GPA of 3.9, in which his application was rejected by NUS. freaking rejected! im like OMGG. i bet they dont even take a look at my grade if i were to apply. zzz.. -;-

oh anyway, khai looks so grown up and smart. & im impressed by the reviews given by his trainees. hehe, my partner is one of them. :)

below are the courses served by the hotel.

COURSE 7 : some sort of mango... i cant remember what it is.

COURSE 6 : tasted like fan choy..i cant recall the exact name of the dish

COURSE 5 : some pieces of veg, a shitake mushroom and egg tofu

COURSE 4 : pieces of roasted chicken(like those you eat with chicken rice) & a fish cracker

COURSE 3 : steamed fish (which i mum made tasted so much better)

COURSE 2 : lobster soup (which initially i thought was shark fin!)

COURSE 1 : diced mango/honeydews, few squids, ngoh hiang & dumpling

now, after viewing the images of the courses being served, does it looks like it comes from a 5 star hotel? i doubt so. the quality of the food i'd give 2.5/5. like seriously. none of the courses served came out hot. most of it is cold, thus, it tasted quite bland.

somehow i felt that eating at coffeeshop tasted so much better. not only that, the tea given was very bitter! yes, and it is not due to the flavour of the tea. im used to making tea for my dad everytime im home, so i knew, the bitter taste is due to the tea bag being placed too long inside the tea thus it became bitter. urgh.

yes, the atmosphere, environment and lighting did gave a very posh and high class feel but not the cuisine/foods served. im kinda dissapointed with the taste and the portion given. this is my first time being in a 5 star hotel and i tasted such low standard of food.
are singapore's hotels standard really that dissapointing, like seriously?
